Abstract
A statistical analysis of cancer in Korea was carried out on the basis of cancer registries of the Cancer Hospital for the year of 1971, and 1974, Seoul National University Hospital for the year of 1971 and the Korean Society of Pathology on cancer incidence for the year of 1967.
The magnitudes of order of relative frequency of cancer were stomach, liver and lung in males; uterus, breast and stomach in females.
Particular interest was placed to the recent increase of lung and breast cancers.
In the geographical study, the relative frequency !.of stomach cancer was noted highest in Chulla-Bukdo area and rather lower in Seoul area.
Rural people showed more stomach and less lung cancers as compared to the urban people. The relative frequency by age groups showed the highest over 60 years of age in lung cancer,
45-49 years of age in uterine cancer and younger age in malignant lymphoma.
Summarizing the present study, it appears that the frequency of cancer among Koreans tends to become those of western people. Authors discussed about the necessity of the epidemiological study on cancer and possible approach under the present situation.
